The 5-Leaf Costa Rica Sustainable Tourism hotel Playa Nicuesa Rainforest Lodge is awarded TripAdvisor’s highest GreenLeader status for being eco-friendly.
Playa Nicuesa Rainforest Lodge in Costa Rica is proud to announce it has been awarded the highest level Platinum in the TripAdvisor GreenLeaders program, which helps travelers make greener travel choices at environmentally-friendly accommodations around the world.
The TripAdvisor GreenLeaders Program honors eco-friendly hotels, lodges and B&Bs, from budget to luxury, that are all committed to environmental practices like recycling, serving local and organic food, water and electricity conservation, etc.
Choosing to stay at eco-friendly hotels is a great way to decrease your overall impact of travel. TripAdvisor’s program not only helps educate consumers to make eco-friendly choices, it also encourages hotels to be more eco-minded. More than 8,000 hotels are already participating and earning green badges on the popular travel review site.
TripAdvisor GreenLeaders hotels have met a set of environmental standards developed for TripAdvisor by a leading environmental consulting firm, with input from international green industry experts such as the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Certification Program, the United Nations Environment Program, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR program.
The more eco-friendly practices a hotel has in place, the higher its GreenLeader level. GreenLeaders achieve one of four statuses: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. The highest level, Platinum, meets GreenLeaders minimum requirements plus a 60% score or higher.
The program is completely voluntary. Hotels do not pay to participate in the program. Participants must reapply on an annual basis to ensure their continued enrollment, and to maintain their badge on their TripAdvisor page.
To see if a hotel is a GreenLeader on TripAdvisor, look at the top menu under a hotel’s name on their TripAdvisor page to see their awards.
